A symposium was held to commemorate the retirement of UNU-IAS Director Kazuhiko Takemoto

November 1, 2019, a symposium was held at the United Nations University Headquarters in Aoyama, Tokyo, to commemorate the retirement of Dr. Kazuhiko Takemoto, who has served as Director of the University’s Institute for Advanced Studies on Sustainability (UNU-IAS) since January 2014.

Prior to his appointment as Director of the UNU-IAS, which was established in 2014, Dr. Takemoto served as Senior Fellow and Program Director at the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS), the predecessor of the UNU-IAS, from 2010. He was also responsible for the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the International Satoyama Initiative, and the Operating Unit Ishikawa-Kanazawa (OUIK).

Dr. Takemoto will be appointed as a Project Professor at the University of Tokyo’s recently established Institute for Future Initiatives and will continue to serve as President of the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center and Secretary General of SDSN Japan.
