【EVENT: 20 April 2017】SDG Dialogue: Global Companies & the 2030 Agenda

Given the recent drastic social and political change in the international community, including the US and Europe, conventional capitalism is being challenged, and the roles played by global companies in society are rapidly evolving and expanding. This SDG Dialogue event will explore how global companies can contribute to mainstreaming the SDGs. Speakers and participants will exchange views and experiences, considering new modes of corporate management in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The event will discuss key questions such as:

•How can global companies integrate social and environmental agendas into corporate management — not only from a corporate social responsibility perspective, but in order to maintain competitiveness in the face of a global paradigm shift?
•How can environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment criteria be linked to the 2030 Agenda?

The event will be co-organized by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Japan (SDSN Japan) and United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), with the support of Nikkei Inc. , the Global Compact Network Japan and CDP, and also cooperation with Global Environment Outreach Centre.

The event will be held in English and Japanese, with simultaneous translation provided. To register, please click HERE (by 17:00 on 14 April 2017).

Background
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the core element of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that was adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015. The 2030 Agenda is inclusive and universal, emphasizing that “no one will be left behind”, with multi-stakeholder partnerships needed at all levels of society to achieve the global goals. The Government of Japan established its SDGs Promotion Headquarters in May 2015, which produced the SDGs Implementation Guiding Principles last December. The need to enhance private-sector cooperation in addressing the 2030 Agenda is an integral element of these principles.

The SDG Dialogue Series
This UNU-IAS event series brings experts together to share ideas and insights for achieving the SDGs. Each event promotes dialogue and networking between panellists and participants through interactive discussion.
