Sustainable Development Solutions Network Japan (SDSN Japan) was officially launched on 28th July 2015 during the 7th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP 2015) held at Pacifico Yokohama conference centre. The launching ceremony was moderated by Professor Kanie, who serves as a council member of SDSN Japan and was joined by guest speakers including Professor Jeffery Sachs (Colombia University), the Director of SDSN.

The Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) is a new independent global network of research centres, universities and other stakeholders including business and civil society organisations, launched in August 2012 by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The SDSN aims to help find solutions for some of the world’s most pressing environmental, social and economic problems, and to achieve sustainable development.

As is the case in the other parts of the world, Japan is faced with various problems in promoting a more sustainable society. SDSN Japan aims to make a significant contribution to the efforts towards the formulation and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national level, through its activities. SDSN Japan is relevant in this regard in that it will take a comprehensive approach to various problems by engaging with a variety of interested partners including policy makers, academics, private sectors, and civil society organisations. SDSN Japan, through the network of other countries’ SDSNs, will create an innovative platform for active discussion concerning the action-oriented research on questions of environment and development.

2015年7月28日、横浜パシフィコ会議センターで開催された「第7回持続可能なアジア太平洋に関する国際フォーラム（ISAP 2015）」において、「持続可能な開発ソリューション・ネットワーク・ジャパン（SDSN Japan）」発足式が行われました。持続可能な開発ソリューション・ネットワーク（Sustainable Development Solutions Network: SDSN)は、2012年に潘基文国連事務総長によって設立されたグローバルなネットワークであり、研究機関や大学、企業、市民団体等を含む様々な媒体が、その協働を通じて世界の環境・社会・経済問題の解決および持続可能な社会の実現に向けた方策を模索するとともに、これをグローバルなレベルで共有することを目的としています。

日本社会もまた持続可能な社会の実現に向けて様々な問題を抱えており、SDSN Japanを通じ、これらの課題への取り組みを促進し、国内レベルでの目的策定やその履行について、検討を続けていく必要があります。SDSN Japanでは、環境・開発を含む種々の政策分野に横断的に取り組むとともに、各政策担当者、企業、市民社会団体(CSO)などの多様なアクターおよびステークホルダーの関与するプラットフォームの構築に向けた活動を進めて参ります。

SDSN Japan発足式は、理事の一員を務める蟹江憲史教授（慶應義塾大学）の司会進行の下で進められ、ゲストとして迎えられたSDSNディレクターのジェフリー・D・サックス教授(コロンビア大学)らにより、SDSN Japanの展望に対する強い期待が表明されました。

SDSN Japanは、SDGsの履行プロセスに焦点を当て、各国SDSNやアジアにおける地域SDSNと共同で各国の状況に関する国際比較研究の実施などの活動を計画しています。また、研究成果を社会で共有していくためのネットワークを構築するなど、持続可能な社会へ向けた貢献を目指してまいります。
